Sometimes I feel like I just get too angry about social and political issues. Sometimes I feel like I just get on everyone’s nerves with how worked up I get about things. And because of that I just want to take a seat and not even be fucked to care anymore. But I just can’t. People tell me all the time that I’m ‘so angry’ because I’m constantly worked up about some issue or another. I can’t just let this shit go. I have to get mad about it. I have to say something about it.

This is stuff that not only sincerely interests me but it’s also stuff that I feel to be incredibly important. I hate apathy more than anything else. I know I get on people’s nerves with how pissed I get about stuff, but I just really can’t help it. I can’t be quiet.

People ask you to not get so passionate because they are more comfortable ignoring the problems in the world. They hate that you are making them have to acknowledge things that are not fun to think about. They hate that people see plain as day just how awful things are and just how much they’re contributing to it. You’re just, like, totally ruining their good time, man. Don’t you see? If we just don’t talk about problems they’ll totally go away!

I hear from my social groups all the time that I need to settle down, that I’m looking for things to be mad about, and if maybe I used a different and more gentle approach people might listen to me. Those are their ways of telling us to shut up because we’re talking about things that make them think, and to them, thinking isn’t fun. Don’t ever let them deter you from speaking up about what’s right. Maybe one day they’ll even open their minds and listen.
